Lisbon witnessed, on a night dripping with pure magic, the most anticipated gig of MEO Kalorama — the hypnotic arrival of FKA Twigs, an artist who transcends the stage to take us on a deeply sensory, intimate journey where body, music, and light entwine in a dance of flesh and soul.

The EUSEXUA tour isn’t just a run of shows; it’s a poetic manifesto on identity, vulnerability, and reinvention. The tour’s name echoes a raw, unfiltered kind of sexuality, where skin becomes the purest narrative and expression. And that’s exactly what unfolded that Lisbon night.

The show kicked off with Twigs rocking a simple tracksuit — almost domestic in vibe — a quiet prelude to the transformation that followed. Slowly, she shed that comfort for a tight, minimalist piece that clung like a second skin, lingerie tones matching her own flesh. No frills, no flowing fabrics or sparkle — just stark simplicity and rawness, the perfect canvas for what came next.

The dancers, crucial players in this visual and choreographic narrative, shared the same aesthetic philosophy: fitted, simple clothes in skin tones, almost invisible in their minimalism, amplifying the sensation of an intimate, organic dance where the body is both the centre and the language. It wasn’t about hiding, but revealing — stripping back the soul with every move in choreography that felt like a dream both ancient and futuristic.

The stage lighting was a moving painting, tracing lines and shadows that highlighted shapes, contours, and raw emotion. It breathed and pulsed with the music, creating a near-sacred atmosphere, a space-time where the music wasn’t just heard but truly felt on the skin.

The soundscape of EUSEXUA is a world of its own: a lush, sophisticated blend of experimental R&B, electronic beats, and ethereal textures crafting intimate yet expansive soundscapes. FKA Twigs’s voice — sometimes a whisper, other times a cry — is the thread weaving through the show, an instrument channeling strength and fragility, desire and resistance. Tracks like “Meta Angel,” “Oh My Love,” and “Cellophane” took on new life in her visceral renditions, wrapping the crowd in waves of deep emotion.

But this was more than just a gig — it was a communion, an invitation to look inward, to feel your own skin and the layers around it, to embrace imperfection and constant transformation. Twigs doesn’t serve up easy answers or chase quick applause; she offers a journey, a sensory plunge that challenges and rewards those who dive in.

When the lights finally went out and silence took hold, it was clear we’d witnessed something singular — a performance that lingers, a moment where art revealed itself in all its complexity and beauty. The EUSEXUA tour confirms FKA Twigs as one of the most groundbreaking and essential artists of our time — a voice that not only sings but tells stories, not just dances but translates feelings, not just shows herself but gives her whole self.

The show was split into three acts, like a story: beginning, middle, and conclusion, giving a perfect perspective on what was unfolding and its purpose. The setlist was spot-on, carefully curated for this performance.

When Damiano David took to the main stage at Lisbon’s MEO Kalorama, expectations were high – that fire, that electricity we’ve come to associate with his voice and presence felt almost inevitable. But what unfolded wasn’t an explosion; it was more like a spark still finding its way – a solo venture clearly in the making.

His voice remained as commanding as ever – that signature rasp, and a dynamic range that effortlessly slid from whisper to roar – but there was a certain emptiness in the air. Without a full band behind him or a more fleshed-out stage production, his performance occasionally felt like a rough sketch of something that could, eventually, become much more.

The sound mix didn’t help matters either – at times the vocals overpowered everything, and at others, they were buried beneath keys and guitars. That imbalance chipped away at the impact of several tracks. The band were tight, technically solid, but something visceral was missing – that chill-down-the-spine connection that elevates a live show into something unforgettable.

Visually, things stayed stripped back, with Damiano choosing intimacy over spectacle. A genuine artistic choice, no doubt, but in a setting of this scale, it left you wishing for something more immersive, more ambitious.

One of the night’s most authentic moments came when Damiano, smiling, admitted: “Sorry, I don’t speak any Portuguese – but I should. The only thing I know is ‘o mar de gente, o sol diferente, o monte de betão não me provoca nada.’” A nod to the track “Deslocado” by local band NAPA – followed by a cheeky Eurovision quip: “They should’ve won… after Italy, of course.” A small but sincere gesture to connect with the Lisbon crowd.

He also shared a personal detail that warmed the room: he’s in a relationship with actress and singer Dove Cameron, whose parents happen to live in Bombarral. So, Portugal isn’t exactly unfamiliar territory – a real connection that makes his repeated visits feel all the more meaningful for local fans.

Still, it wasn’t all smooth sailing. When  in Månesquin he set the stage alight with pure, unfiltered fan energy. In this gig the vibe felt more muted – almost too relaxed. Part of the crowd seemed unconvinced by Damiano’s new direction, as if they’d come hoping for something else, or were quietly wrestling with the shift in artistic focus. But as he has mentioned several times, in Måneskin he was playing a character he no longer identifies with, and his audience needs to respect his choices and what he feels is best for himself.

In the end, there was a sense that this is an artist still finding his solo footing. The talent is undeniable, but the finer details – technical cohesion, sonic balance, visual storytelling – still need refining. Here’s hoping that next time, Damiano David returns not just with fire, but with the full flame we know he’s capable of igniting.

Lisbon welcomed Royel Otis like one welcomes the return of an old summer: carefree, colourful, and ready to dance. The Australian duo took to the San Miguel stage in the early evening of June 21st, and in less than an hour, managed to turn the curious into believers. For a few shimmering moments, MEO Kalorama became an indie-pop dancefloor where the smiles were as sincere as the hooks were catchy.

The show opened with "Jump Into The Fire" (a Harry Nilsson classic, played as an intro), a gentle warning: this is carefree pop, but far from naïve. What followed, “Going Kokomo”, kicked off the set with luminous guitars and breezy vocals — a one-way ticket to some coastline where time slows to a crawl. Tracks like "Adored", "Heading for the Door", and "Kool Aid" followed, weaving together a setlist full of earworm choruses, delicate synths, and rhythms that got the crowd moving without ever begging for attention.

But it wasn’t just the music that captivated — Royel Otis know how to tell stories with humour and ease. During “Foam”, messages on the giant screen encouraged the audience to “show us your crooked teeth,” a gentle reminder that we’re all in this together — imperfections and all. On another track, the screen read: “this was supposed to be the lyrics of a new Royel Otis song” — a cheeky wink that drew real laughter and proved that the stage can also be a space to play.

The band’s charm peaked during "I Wanna Dance With You", when they asked the crowd to dance with strangers. Not everyone took up the challenge, but the intent was clear: to create fleeting connections between strangers, with music as the spark. The journey continued through songs like "Sofa King", "Moody", and "Car", each carrying the band’s unmistakable stamp: jangly guitars, elastic grooves, and melodies that drift into your ears like warm breeze through an open window.

But it was in the final stretch that Royel Otis played their trump card — nostalgia. First came a bold, euphoric cover of "Murder on the Dancefloor" (Sophie Ellis-Bextor), turning the park into a glittery open-air disco, followed by "Linger" by The Cranberries, sung word-for-word by a crowd fully surrendered to the moment. They weren’t their songs — but they might as well have been, such was the emotional delivery and ease with which they made them their own.

They closed with "Oysters In My Pocket", a sun-drenched, laid-back track that felt like a lazy goodbye on a beach at the end of a perfect day — no drama, just the quiet satisfaction of knowing something beautiful had just happened.

Full setlist:

1. Jump Into The Fire (intro)

2. Going Kokomo

3. Adored

4. Heading for the Door

5. Kool Aid

6. Foam

7. Moody

8. Car

9. I Wanna Dance With You

10. Sofa King

11. Murder on the Dancefloor (cover)

12. Linger (cover)

13. Oysters in My Pocket

In the end, it was clear that Royel Otis don’t need pyrotechnics or inflated egos. They came with charm, polished melodies, and an effortlessly infectious vibe — and left Kalorama utterly enchanted.

And if this show proved anything, it's that the new wave of Australian bands is stronger than ever. From Royel Otis to Lime Cordiale, Ocean Alley, Skegss, Fool Nelson, or Pretty Ugly Band, there’s a wealth of sound coming from the other side of the world that deserves more presence on Portuguese stages. Hopefully, this Kalorama performance marks just the beginning of a closer relationship between Portuguese audiences and the thriving Australian music scene. The talent is there — we just need to keep inviting them back.

When Noga Erez stepped onto the main stage at MEO Kalorama on 21 June, anticipation was high for an electrifying and innovative set from the Israeli artist, renowned for her deft fusion of punchy beats, incisive lyrics, and bold stage presence. What unfolded, however, was a pared-back, almost skeletal performance that felt like it was running on “standby”.

With no live band to bolster her, relying solely on backing tracks and a static image projected behind her, Erez sought to forge an intimate connection with the crowd. Yet, the barebones production, coupled with technical difficulties she openly acknowledged during the set, drained much of the energy and disrupted the show’s flow.

Ultimately, the show fell short of what one might expect from a main stage headliner, leaving a lingering sense of unrealised potential. It was as if a powerful engine was running well below capacity — the talent is unquestionably there, but the spark needed to elevate the performance to memorable heights was missing.

As Erez herself remarked, one can only hope to see her return for a gig where everything clicks into place, allowing us to fully experience the compelling force of her music and stagecraft.

“The First Time”, “Voices” e “Tango” incendiaram a multidão, enquanto as versões de “Nothing Breaks Like a Heart” e “Too Sweet” levaram o público ao delírio.

Darkness as a Stage

When Boy Harsher took to the stage, what followed was a performance that encapsulated that spirit entirely: a fusion of the synthetic and the visceral, light and shadow, where electronic and industrial sounds collided with the pulse of the dancefloor.

The moment you stepped into the front of the stage, it was clear the space had been transformed to match Boy Harsher’s aesthetic. Bathed in dark reds and shadows, the setting felt almost cinematic — like a sci-fi horror film unfolding live. There were no over-the-top effects or extravagant visuals. Their energy was channelled almost entirely into the sound. As Augustus Muller’s immersive synth beats kicked in, the audience instantly understood they were about to embark on a sensory experience of another kind.

Jae Matthews: The Voice of Mystery

You can’t speak of Boy Harsher without mentioning Jae Matthews. Her stage presence is magnetic, yet unsettling — a paradox that defines the band’s essence. Her voice, soft but emotionally loaded, drifts through each track like a shadow. It doesn’t dominate but lingers just behind the beat, delivering an ethereal, icy touch that builds a palpable tension between the crowd and the moment unfolding in that spellbound darkness.

Her connection with the audience was fascinating. There were no grand gestures or performative smiles. Matthews remained cloaked in mystery, yet managed to form a visceral link with those watching. The focus was always the music — how, with each melody, bodies moved and surrendered to the moment.

The Setlist: A Dense, Hypnotic Journey

Boy Harsher’s setlist played out like a rollercoaster ride — drifting from trance-like introspection to bursts of euphoria. Tracks like Pain and Not Afraid dominated the dancefloor, but it was the newer material from Careful that revealed the band’s more sensory, introspective side. These weren’t songs designed simply to please — they aimed to mesmerise. With pulsing beats and looping synths, they created emotional feedback loops, blurring the lines between sound and feeling, between rhythm and crowd energy. There were moments of taut tension and others where the music seemed to dissolve time entirely — leaving only sound and shared connection.

The pacing of the set was masterful. The slow build-ups, the deliberate tension in longer tracks — all of it felt purposeful. The ebb and flow of tempo didn’t just keep the audience engaged, it enveloped them in a kind of collective meditation, where movement became instinctive and deeply felt. Boy Harsher didn’t need flashy tricks to control the room — they knew exactly how to wield atmosphere.

The Perfection of Melancholy

With Boy Harsher's kinda cold, minimalistic approach, the duo distilled the essence of their sound and delivered it with unfiltered clarity. It’s not for everyone, but for those who get it — who surrender to the sonic pull — it was nothing short of magic. A moment of danceable melancholy, a testament to how electronic music can be both emotionally charged and utterly absorbing.

At MEO Kalorama, where music collides with the pulse of the city, Model/Actrix delivered one of the most overwhelming performances of the festival. The American band, with their explosive blend of post-punk and noise rock, didn’t just put on a gig – they crafted an immersive, visceral experience that shook every corner of the audience.

The performance was a constant battle between melody and chaos. With each track, the heavy beats and aggressive guitar riffs intertwined with near-delirious moments of distortion, creating a constant tension in the atmosphere. And it’s in that space between chaos and order where Model/Actrix truly shines — their music isn’t just to be heard, but to be felt, to be lost in.

The setlist for the night was as follows:

1. Vespers

2. Mosquito

3. Crossing Guard

4. Slate

5. Doves

6. Audience

7. Ring Road

8. Departures

9. Diva

10. Cinderella

What stood out most, though, was how Cole Haden brought his own truth to the stage. The band's lyrics, often heavy with queer themes such as desire and identity, aren’t mere words — they’re a shout, a declaration. As Haden describes, “working in a genre that isn’t typically gay” makes each song an affirmation of his place in music and society. And it’s this raw honesty that turns Model/Actrix from just a band into a manifesto.

At times, it felt as though the stage and the crowd were one single entity, where the sound absorbed us, made us move, react, and lose ourselves. And yet, there was also a sense of total introspection — as if the music was forcing us to confront parts of ourselves that we often ignore.

By the end of the gig, the feeling was clear: Model/Actrix didn’t just put on a show, they made history. And perhaps that’s the true power of their music — to make us question, to liberate us, and, perhaps, to help us understand just a little bit more about ourselves.
