Cassette Made in Portugal: A Soundtrack the World Needs to Hear
Welcome
to Cassette
Made in Portugal, a new column dedicated to showcasing
Portuguese bands that the world absolutely needs to know. This isn’t about
trends or quick-hit lists: this is about music that moves us, that makes us
dance, that gives us chills, that stays with us from the first listen to the
last note live on stage.
We write about bands we
love, bands we’ve seen live, bands that have captured us both on record and in
performance. They don’t have to be new, they don’t have to be emerging, some
are well-established, some have been around for decades, but they all have
something to say, and they all deserve to be heard beyond Portugal’s borders.
Bands bursting with talent, creativity, and an energy that demands
international attention.
Portugal has music to give,
and then some. Many of these bands don’t tour globally, don’t headline huge
festivals, and rarely appear in international music media. But don’t be fooled:
the talent is here, often on par with — or surpassing — bands from other
countries who travel the world non-stop.
Cassette
Made in Portugal
is not a column confined to any one style. On the contrary: it’s written by
several members of our editorial team, each with their own tastes and
influences, ensuring a diverse and plural view of Portuguese music. Here you’ll
find rock, electronics, krautrock, noise, jazz, experimental, hardocore, HipHop
or anything else that strikes us as exciting and worthy of attention.
Our goal is simple: to
introduce these bands to our followers outside Portugal, to open doors, forge
connections, and share the best that the country has to offer. Portugal is not
just fado or clichéd tourist clichés; it has a vibrant, diverse, and surprising
music scene, waiting to be discovered.
This column is a love letter
to Portuguese music: for those who already know it, for the curious, and for
anyone who hasn’t yet heard it — but should. It’s for anyone who believes music
has no borders, and that every band deserves their place in the world.
Welcome to Cassette
Made in Portugal. Here, Portuguese music takes centre stage, whether old, new, emerging or established, and across any style that makes it
shine.
