Wet Leg Set Porto Ablaze: A Chilly Night Turned Glorious
A biting wind swept through the festival grounds, the kind that
stings your face and rattles your bones. But the moment Wet Leg took the stage,
wearing half-knowing, half-defiant smiles, it was as if someone had lit a
bonfire in the middle of the crowd. “Wet Dream” landed second in the set, a
cheeky wink, a signal that this wouldn’t be just another night. And it wasn’t.
Amid zipped-up jackets and feet that refused to stay still,
unfolded a show fuelled by raw light and nervous electricity. Rhian Teasdale, Hester
Chambers and the boys, showed no fear in reinventing themselves in front of
thousands. They brought with them not just hits, but new, as-yet-unreleased
songs that already had shape and soul, among them, “Catch These Fists” and the
provocative “CPR”, which nestled in the ear like a whispered secret under
moonlight.
Between songs came soft “obrigada” and “obrigado” spoken with
careful, almost shy pronunciation, yet brimming with genuine gratitude. The
kind of thank yous that feel earned, heartfelt. As if the band knew they were
being embraced, and wanted to give back the best of what they have: off-kilter
energy, razor-sharp humour, and the delightfully messy art that’s all their
own.
The guitars sounded like notes passed in the back of the
classroom. Choruses landed with the urgency of a summer crush. And when “Chaise
Longue” exploded through the speakers, it felt like the cold had been blasted
away in one massive, collective shout, as though everyone there had been caught
off guard by a sudden, dancing joy.
At a festival where fresh sounds share space with the weight of
legacy, Wet Leg made it clear: the second chapter can be just as captivating as
the first or maybe even braver. They came fearless, armed with new songs and
firmly grounded in a space they’re boldly reshaping as their own.
By the end, no one seemed ready to leave. Maybe because, for a that
moment, that frozen field became a place where laughter, rhythm, and noise
built something close to a home. A warm one. That’s priceless and this is why
we love Primavera Sound Porto.
