San Quentin

By VoxPop - fevereiro 01, 2022

I listen San Quentin music and it would be impossibel not to want write about them. From Southend-on-Sea, Essex, England, San Quentin formed in October 2019 as a 4 piece, Liam Cass (rhythm guitarist & songwriter) Owen Eves (lead vocals), Nick Keep (bass) and Luke Johns (drums), then in May 2020 Dan (lead guitar) joined the band and San Quentin was formed.

Inspired by Johnny Cash's writing, with two singles released "Step Off" and "Laughs on you", already have many concerts on their road and maybe an album on the way, which you'll have to wait to find out. Find out more about them in the interview we did with them.

How did the idea of forming the San Quentin come about?

The idea of san quentin came about whilst trying hard to find something memorable. We oringinally was called the Gamblers (awful name haha). I was lying in my room trying to think of a name and looked up at my johnny cash picture on the wall.

In the backround it had san quentin. so from then onwards we went with that name. In all honesty its quite fitting as i like the writing style of johnny cash and admire him as an artists.

How do you describe your music?

Our music would be best decribed as alternative indie/rock. As the writer of the band (Liam Cass)I like to use observational writing styles and seek lots of ideas from watching situations unfold.

What do you get inspiration from for your music?

As said before. in terms of writing songs I like the way johnny cash used to write songs about situations and scenarios. Also like there to be massive hooks in the songs to get the crowd singing along. Overall id say most musical inspiration comes from the early 2000's, but the writing is inspired by the likes of johnny cash.

Do you have any predictions for releasing your debut album?

Not to give too much away but potentially expect an EP later this year. We have loads of songs written so just trying to fit the most suitable into an EP could be hard. The ep will have a defiant sound and story behind it.

What can we expect from your concerts?

As a band we like to always put our all in at gig and get really into it. we have a sold out 400 cap hometown show in feb with this feeling so if anyone wants to see us live they should get to the next available gig this summer so (not been announced yet) Overall high energy, crowd participation, and good vibes.
