Hailing from Geneva, Lone Assembly is a quartet that moves effortlessly between melancholic post-punk, darkwave and romantic synth-pop, exuding a rare confidence. Comprising Raphaël Bressler (vocals and keyboards), Glenn Le Meur (guitar), Jim Bodeman (bass) and Romain Segu (drums), the band crafts soundscapes that evoke the 1980s, yet with a modern, intense and cinematic production. Each track tells its own story, drawing the listener in from the first note to the final echo.

Their debut EP, That Never Happened (2024), announced the band to the world, revealing their uncanny ability to turn introspection, nostalgia and pain into compelling music. Since then, singles such as Keep This Flame, The Pain Keeper, In The Open and My Life’s Solid have paved the way for their highly anticipated full-length debut, Knots & Chains (2026), where the band reaches its creative peak. Tracks like Seven Souls and All Around Me reveal a darker, more introspective side, with deep basslines and synthesizers that almost breathe, cementing the quartet’s unique sonic signature.

Knots & Chains is an album of contrasts and layers: hymns of pain, alienation and sorrow, yet also of hope, strength and courage. Cloaked in a gothic aesthetic, the record explores control in all its forms — the control exerted by others, cultivated within ourselves, and imposed by the spaces we inhabit. Each song functions as a miniature cinematic experience, blending classic post-punk with modern synth-pop layers and lyrics that delve into loneliness, transformation and emotional unrest. In The Open exemplifies this evolution, revealing a melodic sensibility that never compromises the band’s dark identity.

Critics and fans alike have praised Lone Assembly for the emotional intensity and cinematic atmosphere of their music. Each track resonates beyond the auditory, crafting sonic narratives that touch both mind and heart. Live, the band transforms this energy into a palpable experience: lights, shadows, synthesizers and guitars intertwine to create performances that are immersive and unforgettable, each show a full dive into the aesthetics and emotion of their music.

In short, Lone Assembly delivers music that is emotionally charged, meticulously produced and powerfully immersive live, captivating both fans of 1980s sounds and new generations seeking contemporary post-punk, darkwave and synth-pop. With Knots & Chains, the band reaffirms their ability to turn pain and alienation into hope, strength and courage, cementing their place as one of the most fascinating and promising voices in the contemporary Swiss music scene. Without a doubt, we would love to see them perform live in Portugal soon, to experience firsthand the intensity and magnetism that only a band like Lone Assembly can convey.

Since 2014, The Shifters, hailing from the northern suburbs of Melbourne, have been crafting music that breathes tension, repetition, and space, music that moves like a body in slow motion, each note claiming its own territory. Their songs do not announce themselves; they establish themselves, repeat, and gradually ensnare the listener in a near-hypnotic state, where every detail seems to come alive.

The band’s sound is built from insistent guitars, drifting keyboards, and a rhythm section that propels everything forward like a relentless engine. Echoes of 1960s garage, stripped of excess, collide with the dry urgency of late-70s, early-80s punk, yet the result is unmistakably contemporary, intimate, and deeply sensory. Listening to The Shifters conjures images: long neon-lit streets, engines idling, tension crawling across the skin. This is music you feel as much as you hear.

Lyrically, the band inhabits unexpected territories. Their songs read like fragments of military history, geopolitical observation, and fleeting everyday moments, often threaded with subtle, dry humour. Each track offers a meticulous glance at conflict, the absurdities of modern life, or overlooked historical episodes, transforming complex subjects into immediate sonic experiences. The vocals do more than narrate; they guide the listener through open-ended narrative landscapes, where repetition becomes atmosphere, space, and sensation.

From their first cassette releases in 2014, The Shifters have built an extensive, internationally distributed catalogue, working with labels across Australia, the USA, the UK, and Europe. Their output includes EPs, split records, and full-length albums such as Have a Cunning Plan (2018, Trouble in Mind) and Open Vault (2022, Adagio830), documenting both the evolution and breadth of their sound, maintaining coherence, nerve, and identity throughout.

The current line-up is Miles Jansen (guitar, vocals), Louise Russell (keyboards, vocals), Chris Brown (guitar), Stella Rennex (bass), Abe Pedroza (drums), and Natasha Havir Smith (violin), balances minimalism with expansion, crafting dense, rhythmic soundscapes that reveal themselves more with every listen.

Over the past decade, The Shifters have brought this universe to stages across Australia and, in 2019, toured Europe, playing in France, Belgium, England, Scotland, and Wales. They have shared bills with Dry Cleaning, Fat White Family, Uranium Club, UV Race, Exek, The Pheromoans, Terry, and Constant Mongrel, situating themselves firmly within a scene that values identity, risk, and consistency over immediate visibility.

The Shifters inaugurate the Soundscope column, a space dedicated to artists who captivate and challenge us, and whom we believe our readers will want to discover and dwell with. Music that does not reveal itself instantly, that creates imagery, tension, and narratives that spark the imagination, music that invites you into its world and keeps you coming back.

The Vovos are five voices, five stories and one unstoppable energy. Hailing from Naarm/Melbourne, Ada, Mika, Lu, Bethany and Ruby have transformed friendship and music into a collective force.

The Vovos are more than a band — they are a connection forged over time, a friendship that grew alongside their songs. Formed in their teens, between after-school video calls, hastily written lyrics, and performances in venues they were often too young to enter, they learned early that making music is also learning to exist in the world.

From the jangly, urgent punk of their early days to the confident sound of their LP Lilla Gubben, released on 1 March 2024 with 11 immersive tracks, and their EP Cock Rock, released on 15 January 2025 with 4 short, explosive songs, each release reveals a band growing in confidence, scope, and awareness of their collective strength. Punk and indie coexist, intimacy and spectacle walk hand in hand. Each song is a journey — six minutes of immersion or two minutes of pure intensity — demonstrating that variety is freedom, not indecision.

Influences from Kate Bush, Patti Smith, Angel Olsen, and Sharon Van Etten shape their voice, yet the sound is entirely their own: bold, creative, feminine, and full of presence. Lyrics explore friendship, blossoming love, everyday rituals, ballgowns at the bar, and moments of ordinary magic — creating poetic, cinematic, and unforgettable imagery.

On stage, The Vovos transform music into a collective experience. Their energy carried them from sweaty local pubs to large-scale stages, from tours across nearly all Australian states and territories to festivals such as Laneway Festival and Party in the Paddock, sharing stages with iconic acts including Spiderbait and The 5678s. In 2025, they crossed borders for the first time, bringing their universe to the UK and Europe, captivating new audiences without ever losing the essence that defines them.

There is something deeply liberating and almost political in how The Vovos inhabit the stage: celebrating vulnerability and irreverence, showing that being “a silly girl on stage” is strength, and creating spaces where anger, sadness, and emotion transform into joy, release, and communion.

Lilla Gubben marks a natural turning point — eleven tracks that speak of friendship, love, everyday magic, and mirrored discs, showcasing richer, more ambitious musicality. The EP Cock Rock, with four short, explosive tracks, adds immediate intensity and energy to their discography, completing a cinematic and living body of work.

Listening to The Vovos is stepping into a universe where music radiates warmth, emotion flows freely, and every stage becomes a place you want to linger. Each album, each EP, each performance is a journey of discovery, liberation, and celebration.

Soundscope was born from the need to stop and truly listen. In a world where music rushes past, swallowed by numbers, algorithms, and endless noise, this quinzenal column takes the opposite path: slow, personal, emotional discovery. Here you’ll find bands still unknown locally, but that have already carved a space inside me. Sounds that demand no context, no instant explanation, only ears and hearts ready to feel.

This is music of the world, not in a tourist sense, not boxed by genres or borders. Countries don’t matter, scenes don’t matter, only vibration matters. The sounds traverse continents, languages, and expectations to hit straight at the body. Soundscope moves freely, through open geographies and unruly aesthetics, where identity is made by feeling, not maps.

We live in an era where algorithms dictate what reaches our ears. But algorithms don’t feel. They don’t give goosebumps, they don’t create that pause before the first note. They repeat patterns, amplify popularity, but they can’t judge quality. Music that truly moves you often goes unheard, while trending charts recycle formulas. Soundscope resists that. It chooses by what hits, what resonates, what lingers. Quality here is measured by intensity, honesty, emotion, not clicks or stats.

This isn’t about the next big thing. It’s about affinity. About recognising a frequency, a truth in the sound that stays long after the last note fades. Music arrives here not by chance, it stays because it strikes, because it conjures images, moods, silences.

There is also a human connection. Conversations, shared ideas, sensitivities recognised across distances. Artists from corners of the world, united not by genre but by a shared way of creating and feeling. Music made without compromise, far from formulas, born from impulse and honesty. There is a vibe, invisible but unmistakable, and that is where this column lives.

Soundscope is personal curation. It is subjective, emotional, unapologetic. It chooses music that moves me because emotion is contagious, and what touches one body can touch another. This isn’t writing to classify. It’s an invitation. To open doors. To spark curiosity. To create encounters.

Published every two weeks, this space illuminates the hidden, not because it lacks value, but because some music asks for patience, attention, and ears ready to listen. Soundscope is that listening space, music of the world felt without borders, discovery without rush, and it may appear in Portuguese or English, reflecting the diversity of our readers.

If a band strikes you, listen. Don’t wait. Immerse yourself. Let it sink in. Let it shake you. The rest will follow.
